Open Foundation and Pathway Programs 

One of UoN's most important commitments is creating pathways for students who may not have come through the traditional higher education route. As Australia's largest provider of enabling programs, UoN enrols around 3,000 students in pathway courses each year. The Open Foundation program provides a head start for students who don't meet standard entry requirements, giving them the academic skills and preparation to succeed at the university level.

Callaghan Campus

The Callaghan campus is UoN's main campus, a large, award-winning campus set across 140 hectares of natural bushland on the western edge of Newcastle. Home to world-class facilities across engineering, health, science, education, and the arts, as well as the Hunter Medical Research Institute, the Wollotuka Institute, and the Indigenous Health Unit, Callaghan is the academic and research heart of the University of Newcastle.

The Newcastle City campus sits at the heart of the CBD, contributing to the city’s growing energy and creative scene. NUspace delivers a modern, technology-enabled learning experience, while the nearby Q Building at Honeysuckle is home to the School of Creative Industries and the Integrated Innovation Network Hub.
