The Net Zero Economy Authority (Authority) is seeking to support local businesses in the Hunter region to participate in and maximise opportunities from the development and ongoing maintenance of transmission projects in the Hunter-Central Coast Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), the Hunter Region Offshore Wind Area, the Central-West Orana REZ, and the New England REZ. The Authority is seeking to do this by developing a document that lists the profiles of businesses in the Hunter region that are current participants/suppliers, or are potential participants/suppliers who have the capability to work in and/or have expressed their interest in:
- The planning and site preparation for transmission projects;
- The manufacturing, installation, and/or ongoing maintenance of transmission towers; and,
- The manufacturing, installation, and/or ongoing maintenance of electrical balance of plant, including but not limited to cabling and wiring, substations, and transformers.
The Authority's Transmission Infrastructure Supplier Showcase for the Hunter region will deliver a clear picture of the capability and capacity of local industry to meet the needs of major transmission projects. Through direct engagement, structured surveys, and validation of business capability, the project will profile businesses already engaged in the transmission supply chain, as well as those with the potential to pivot into this sector. By mapping suppliers across these categories, the project will identify areas of strength and highlight capability gaps.
The Authority will publish the document listing the profiles of businesses on its website and share the document widely across industry and government. The final outcomes will support industry development by identifying opportunities, clarifying barriers to participation, and providing a resource for project proponents and government to draw upon when engaging suppliers.
This information will assist in maximising the involvement of local businesses in the delivery of large-scale infrastructure critical to Australia's clean energy transition, and support the Australian Government's broader Future Made in Australia agenda, through which the Australian Government is engaging with regional communities to explore practical ways of building on investments in new energy infrastructure to ensure that Australian workers and businesses share in the benefits of the global renewable energy transition.
Suppliers wishing to participate in this initiative are invited to complete the survey, which aims to gather key information to accurately align their company's capabilities with project requirements.
